Some weddings are shot.

Some weddings are lived.

And then there are weddings like Nikita & Rishi’s in Mykonos, where by the end, we didn’t feel like photographers or filmmakers at all. We felt like we were part of Humare Log, the couple’s circle of trust. And that is when the real magic happens.

At WeddingNama, we have always believed this: to capture a wedding truthfully, you must first understand it. Understand the couple, their families, their chemistry, their quirks, their humour, their rituals, and the little moments that live between the big moments.

With Nikita and Rishi, that understanding happened naturally because they opened their hearts, their people, their chaos, and their joy to us.

A Couple of Opposites, A Story of Perfect Balance

Nikita - loud, extroverted, bursting with energy that lights up a frame even before the fairy lights switch on.

Rishi - calm, intellectual, smooth, the quiet counterbalance to her whirlwind.

They met at Carnegie Mellon in 2015, survived long-distance, moved cities, built careers, travelled the world, and collected an army of friends along the way.

Their first date included the iconic moment when Nikita demanded:

"Tell me I smell nice."

Nine years later, she made the same demand right after she walked down the aisle in Mykonos. These unscripted moments are exactly why we do what we do.

And of course, the proposal was as grand as their personalities. Rishi flew her over the Matterhorn in a helicopter and proposed on a snowy mountain in Switzerland, followed by surprise celebrations. This is a couple that loves big, celebrates big, and feels deeply. As photographers, that is a gift.

Why Mykonos? Because It Felt Like Them

Nikita told us:

"Think Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, but in Mykonos."

From that moment, we knew the tone of this wedding.

The couple explored Tenerife, Barcelona, Tuscany, Athens... and then Mykonos. One walk through the island and they knew. The white-washed walls, the bougainvillea, the cliffs, the sea, the food, the music - it all felt like the perfect stage for their story.

For us as photographers and filmmakers, Mykonos is a dream canvas - clean whites, sharp blues, warm sunsets, natural reflectors everywhere, and wind that adds drama to every frame.

Becoming Their People - The WeddingNama Way

Our philosophy is simple:

We don't chase moments. We place ourselves within them.

To photograph and film intimately, we must know who the important people are, what dynamics matter, and what emotions are brewing underneath the surface. That only happens when we become part of the group, when we blend into the inner circle instead of interrupting it.

At this wedding, we were not outsiders holding cameras.

We were friends with cameras.

We moved calmly, quietly, and strategically. No running around during rituals. No shouting poses over the sound of the sea. Just observation, anticipation, and presence. This is how real moments reveal themselves.

The Celebrations - A Cinematic Dream in Greek Light

9/25 - Pre-Wedding Mehendi & Welcome Dinner

Nikita’s mehendi began under the Mykonos sun at Sunset Bar - intimate, emotional, warm.

The welcome dinner at Camares turned into a Greek-Indian rager with live music, plate smashing, and a sea of guests dressed in white while the couple shined in dark blue.

The sunset colors every evening were INSANE! The anticipation for the wedding day was REAL!

9/26 - Mehendi & Sangeet

The mehendi was an explosion of colour, speeches, dances by their nieces, and traditional dholki and Bhaat ceremonies.

The sangeet was pure cinema - fairy lights raining across the sky, candles lining the venue, robotic lights, a "Dil Toh Pagal Hai" neon sign, and an audience that danced like they were born for the stage.

Our cameras never rested, but our presence was subtle. We became part of the rhythm.

Haldi - Chaos, Color, and Pure Energy

Nikita and Rishi’s Haldi was one of those events where the energy hits you the second you walk in. As photographers, you instantly know: this is going to get wild, fast.

The entire space on the Horizon Balcony was drenched in yellow - florals, décor, outfits - but what stood out most was how personal it felt. Instead of a calm, gentle Haldi, this was full attack mode (the couple’s friends warned us… and they were right).

We positioned ourselves strategically, because events like this escalate in seconds. One moment you’re shooting sweet family moments, and the next, Rishi’s groomsmen are chasing him with buckets of haldi. The laughter was nonstop - a kind of joyful chaos we love capturing because it’s raw and unfiltered.

Cafe Rishi” was one of our favorite details to film - the custom logo, the personalized stickers, and guests hyped for espresso shots in the middle of haldi madness. Those little touches tell you exactly who the couple is and add layers to the story.

And of course, when Nikita and Rishi finally sat down for the traditional part, they barely lasted a minute before getting haldi-bombed by their friends. As photographers, we stayed calm, read the crowd, and made sure we were exactly where we needed to be - close enough to catch every reaction, far enough to save our cameras!

Baraat - A Full-Blown Mykonos Party

Rishi’s baraat at the Royal Myconian wasn’t just a procession - it was a full-on mini-festival on the hills overlooking the sea. If you know Mykonos, you know the vibe: bright sun, strong wind, loud music, and unbeatable energy.

The moment the dhol kicked in, the friends took over. We watched them block Rishi’s car, lie down in front of it, pull him out, hype him up, and basically turn the whole thing into a destination rave. These are the moments where we don’t direct anything - we chase the vibe and let the story unfold around us.

What we loved was how international the crowd was - friends from the US seeing an Indian baraat for the first time. Their excitement added another level of energy, and visually it was incredible.

We shot from higher vantage points, low angles, and right inside the crowd - because baraats are about movement, noise, chaos, and joy, and every frame needs to show that.

Outfits, Aesthetics and Details That Made This Wedding Glow

Nikita loves to match, and visually, it made the celebrations feel cohesive and cinematic. Mirror-work lehengas that sparkled under Mykonos sunsets, soft pastels for haldi, and iconic reds and golds for the ceremony - every outfit felt like an intentional chapter of their story.

From Simone Handcrafted to Archana Kochhar, Gopi Vaid, Sabyasachi, and Anita Dongre - the wardrobe was stylish, culturally rooted, and beautifully coordinated.

The makeup by Meera Shah was natural, glowy, and true to Nikita’s personality - which made our photography even easier!

The Wedding Ceremony - Tradition, Emotion, and Perfect Mykonos Light

The sunset terrace transformed into a pastel dream for the ceremony - soft pinks, whites, and greens everywhere, matching the Mykonos sky perfectly. The mandap was fully floral, overflowing but elegant, and the hanging garlands at the entrance made every guest look like part of a film frame as they walked in.

What made this ceremony special for us was the balance between tradition and vibe. Yes, it was a classic Marwari/Punjabi ceremony, but the energy was young, warm, and full of personality.

Nikita’s entrance was a moment. Not dramatic - just beautifully emotional. The second she reached Rishi, she asked him, again, after nine years, “Tell me I smell nice!” and he instantly said it. Everyone laughed. Those are the moments you can’t script.

The pandit explained every step so well that even the non-Indian guests were fully engaged, reacting, tearing up, smiling - and we captured all of it.

Post-ceremony, the shoe-stealing drama took over immediately. This group did not hold back. As photographers, we love these unscripted transitions where tradition turns into comedy within seconds.

Reception - Speeches, Tears, Dancing & Full Bollywood Vibes

The reception at Horizon Ballroom felt like a completely different wedding - a clean, royal aesthetic with whites, emerald greens, and gold accents. Chandeliers draped in florals above the tables created a warm, diffused glow that made filming feel effortless.

The emotional core of the night was the speeches. Everyone had stories. Everyone had feelings. But Rishi stole the show - his speech had the entire room crying, including us behind the camera. When a groom gets that real, you know you’re filming something that will matter to them forever.

We captured parents wiping their eyes, friends hugging, Nikita laughing and crying at the same time - the kind of real reactions that become the heart of the final film.

And then, the vibe flipped - the shots came out, the Ouzo display took over, and the dance floor turned into a destination party with their NYC crew leading the charge.

Every hour, every section of the night had a different mood. As a team, we paced ourselves, positioned calmly, and made sure we didn’t miss a beat. The best part was how comfortable Nikita and Rishi were around us - they weren’t performing, they were living their night fully.

How We Prepared - Making Sure We Captured Everything Perfectly! LIKE A MAGAZINE COVER!

For a destination wedding like this, prep is everything. Before arriving in Mykonos, we did online recce, studied the decor and layout plans, and synced with the decorators and production team so we knew exactly how each space would be set up. This helped us plan our angles, lighting approach, and timings well in advance.

We also flew in a day early to walk through every venue at different times of the day. The light in Mykonos changes fast, so checking the varmala and pheras location beforehand helped us lock the perfect entry direction and exact moment for the varmala.

On Day 0, we spent time with Nikita and Rishi to get everyone comfortable before the madness began. This always makes the content feel more natural. And before all of this, we had multiple Zoom calls with them to understand their preferences, family dynamics, and overall vision. By the time the wedding started, we were fully aligned and ready to shoot intuitively.

What We Cherish Most as Storytellers!

When couples trust us, the story unfolds in the most organic way.

Nikita told us:

"It felt like we were just spending time together and some friends happened to be around us clicking pics."

For us, that is everything.

This Mykonos wedding was not just an assignment.

It was an experience, a whirlwind of culture, emotion, friendship, chaos, and beauty.

Nikita and Rishi gave us access, trust, and freedom. And in return, we gave them a story - not just of events, but of energy, people, and love.

We left Mykonos with full hearts, tired feet, thousands of photographs, and friends we hope to keep for life.

❤️LOVE NOTES FROM NIKITA & RISHI FOR WEDDINGNAMA! ❤️

I cannot even begin to explain how amazing, professional, and awesome WeddingNama was. I wanted a team that could capture my wedding like an epic

bollywood movie, but also one that indexed more on fun and vibes than serious/intense posed shots. We got that exact vibe from WeddingNama. They were an incredible and extremely professional team. We aren’t a big “photoshoot” couple but they made every shoot so much fun, it felt like we were just spending time together and some friends happened to be around us clicking pics. I also absolutely loved that they are a team led by a powerful boss woman- Ankita is truly amazing, really knows her stuff- they were my favorite favorite vendors and I’m so glad we brought them all the way from India to Mykonos- so worth it! ALSO- they cranked out so many beautiful pics and video content within a WEEK of the wedding- nobody has ever gotten wedding content so quickly. I am so excited. People are absolutely dying over the photos and videos already! They mix tradition with modern vibes so so so well. I just want to hang out with them and become their best friends. They really listened to us and our style, we just wanted light, candid edits and that’s exactly what we got. I wanted them to capture the fun and the love, and they really did.
