Sun, Mist, and Mountains: A Beautiful Mussoorie Wedding
Some weddings stay with you long after the last baraat dhol quiets down. Surbhi and Pranshu’s intimate, mobile-free wedding in Mussoorie was one such celebration, steeped in serenity, framed by the Himalayas, and filled with the kind of real, unfiltered moments we at WeddingNama love to chase.
Arriving Early: Our Process Begins Long Before the First Shot
Every wedding we take up is deeply customised. We never arrive to “just shoot”; we arrive to understand. For Surbhi and Pranshu’s celebrations, we travelled to Mussoorie a day in advance, giving ourselves the time and calm to truly soak in the property.
That extra day is sacred to us. It’s when we walk through every corner of the venue, study the direction of the sun at different hours, and lock in the perfect spots for portraits, ceremonies, or spontaneous moments that may unfold. In the mountains, where the light changes by the minute and weather has a mind of its own, this preparation becomes even more crucial.
As part of our recce, we also identified a very specific room that offered the most striking perspective for the bride’s entry and the varmala ceremony. The angle from this room allowed us to frame not just the couple, but also the mountains, the mandap, and the emotional reactions of the guests in one powerful composition. We communicated this to the planners and the couple well in advance, ensuring the room was reserved exclusively for this purpose.
The final frames from this vantage point went on to become some of the most iconic visuals of their wedding.
We also spent time collaborating closely with the décor team, lighting team, and every vendor involved. From understanding the mandap’s placement to studying how the chandeliers would glow during Sangeet, we ensure that every artistic and logistical detail aligns seamlessly for a smooth photography experience. At WeddingNama, magic happens when all teams work as one, and this wedding reminded us of that truth.
The Couple: A Love Story That Grew With Them
Surbhi (a dentist) and Pranshu (an investment banker) share the kind of bond that makes photographing them effortless. They met at 13 over ice cream, reconnected over a concert, and have grown together for nine years.
Their proposal story set the tone. Pranshu flew Surbhi to the Maldives the moment restrictions lifted, and under open skies on a boardwalk over turquoise water, he asked her to marry him. That tenderness and thoughtfulness translated beautifully into their wedding moments.
On camera, they were natural, playful, and wonderfully present. Every frame felt like it came with its own soundtrack.
The Wedding: A Mountain Fairytale Without Phones
Their wedding at JW Marriott Mussoorie Walnut Grove felt like it was crafted for the lens. Misty mountains, crisp air, and a backdrop that shifted from gold to pastel as the day unfolded.
Inspired by the couple’s wish for a truly immersive ceremony, the families opted for a mobile-free wedding. Guests were given sweet little handbells for the varmala, and the anchor gently invited everyone to put their phones away.
Suddenly, the mandap felt calmer, the ambience richer, and the emotions more visible. We could see faces, not screens. For photographers, this was a rare delight. It gave us space to move, to compose, and to capture moments exactly as they unfolded, uninterrupted.
The Wedding: A Mandap From the Heart
Conceptualised by Pranshu’s father, the hand-carved wooden mandap stole our hearts. Paired with soft pampas grass and floral arrangements, it blended beautifully with the landscape. When Surbhi made her entry to the sound of hundreds of tiny bells, not clicking phones, the atmosphere felt sacred.
MoRE Celebrations: Each Event a Different Palette
Haldi: The Joyful Burst of Yellow
The Haldi took place under bright Himalayan sun, a perfect blend of laughter, colour, and chaos. Surbhi and Pranshu were showered with marigolds and love in equal measure. One of our favourite shots from the wedding came from this event: a grand group photo with both families and friends in one frame, the mountains stretching endlessly behind them.
Sangeet: Dancing in the Rain
This was meant to be a sundowner Sangeet with cabanas, citrus accents, and garden florals. The sun did shine, for a while. And then came the rain.
But the guests didn’t stop. They danced harder. We used umbrellas for our
What could have been a logistical worry turned into one of the most visually powerful events of the wedding, with glowing lights, drenched happiness, and the mountains peeking through a curtain of mist. It was unpredictable, wild, and utterly photogenic.
Reception: A Modern Glow
White florals, green foliage, crystal chandeliers, and a refreshing calm. After days of vibrant festivities, the reception had a quiet elegance. Every corner was thoughtfully lit, allowing us to create clean and contemporary portraits.
This would be a great time to pause from photos and watch their trailer, but do come back here for more photos and their story and stay with us till the end for some rare BTS!
Why This Wedding Stands Out For Us
Surbhi and Pranshu trusted us fully, from the earliest planning calls to squeezing in a last-minute shoot even after the festivities ended. That trust allowed us to do what we do best: create.
Their families, the planners from The Crimson Circle, and the décor team worked seamlessly with us. This kind of collaboration is what WeddingNama thrives on. It’s why we intentionally take up a limited number of weddings every year, so we can give each couple this level of presence, planning, and customised storytelling.
Mountain weddings carry their own rhythm and temperament. What made this one special was the feeling of togetherness, no distractions, no rush, just two families celebrating love in the purest way.
For us, it was a reminder of why we do what we do: to freeze emotions that feel real even decades later and to turn fleeting moments into films and photographs that last forever.
Annnnnnd now! Time for some BTS as always!
